The local Golden Jaguars squad’s preparation for the CONCACAF Nations League clash with Belize later this month suffered a setback, after the side lost to Fruta Conquerors 0-1 in a training match on Saturday at the National Training Centre, Providence.
Domini Garnett recorded the only conversion of the match in the 70th minute. The speedy forward slotted into the back of the net, after receiving a squared pass from Eon Alleyne.
The loss will serve as a blow to the local contingent, who have initiated an eight week preparation period under the guidance of Assistant Coach Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard.
Guyana will faceoff with 13th placed Belize at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora in a must-win clash in the CONCACAF Nations League on March 23rd.
Victory for the local side would effectively clinch their maiden 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup berth. Guyana currently sit in 8th place on six points.
