Fitness fans get ready! The Kares Engineering Inc Fitness Challenge returns to the National Park’s tarmac on Sunday.

The fifth installment of the CrossFit-style event was launched Tuesday evening at the Genesis Fitness Express Gym and this year’s edition promises to be the biggest one yet. Fitness Challenge 2019 will see 29 turbo-charged gladiators looking to out run, out lift, out jump and outlast each other for the prestigious titles of Guyana’s Fittest Man and Woman.

It will not be easy as it will require a lot of sweat and perhaps, even tears.

Survival of the fittest will also require speed, coordination, aerobic and muscular endurance, experience with Olympic lifts, raw strength, skill, and a healthy serving of guts, determination and power.

The CrossFit-style challenge, which kicks off at 13:00hrs, will be the ultimate test of fitness and athleticism.

Tickets cost $1000. Children under 10 will be admitted free.

According to one of the main coordinators and sponsor of the event, Jamie McDonald, the athletes will be tasked with completing the “toughest athletic event in the country.” It will also involve athletes from neighbouring Suriname.

He added that a combination of Olympic and Strong Man lifts, running and deadlifts and a mixture of CrossFit-style movements are planned for the athletes. Defending champs Dillon Mahadeo and Dolice Adonis will be among the athletes competing for bragging rights and big bucks. Meanwhile, also on Sunday, there will be a teen and a Charity challenge. The proceeds of the Charity Challenge will go to two charities who will receive $100,000 apiece.

Besides the title sponsor, other contributors include Courts, St Joseph’s Mercy Hospital, Giftland Food Maxx, Star Party Rentals, DPI Guyana, Scotia Bank, Windjammer Hotel, Ansa McAL, Fitness Express, Genesis Fitness Express and the National Sports Commission.
