Space Gym gives Petterson-Griffith a lift

The path has been cleared for Carlos ‘The Showstopper’ Petterson-Griffith to earn more international acclaim.

According to the 93kg strong man, his nomination was recently accepted to compete at the World Classic Powerlifting Championships scheduled for June 3-15 in Sweden.

Petterson-Griffith’s sole focus now is to continue his accent up the powerlifting ladder.

The goal when he steps on the platform in two months is to break records and cement his place on as one of the strongest men on the planet.

The World Classic Powerlifting Championships will be his most challenging event to date.

But with his hard hat on, in and out the gym, the world renowned powerlifter and a crane operator is ready for the challenge.

“Now is the time to compete with the big countries and showcase the hidden talent” said Petterson-Griffith yesterday.

The first Guyanese to make it to the World Classic/Raw Powerlifting Championship added “It feels good, hard work does pay off and for me and my career, it has just begun.’

The local force of nature earned his spot at the prestigious championship after a phenomenal outing last year in Mexico at the 16th Annual IPF/ NAPF North American Regional Powerlifting Championship.

Petterson-Griffith recorded a Total of 800kg – Squatting 315kg; Bench Pressing 155kg and a Dead lifting 330kg. He then earned the best lifter award. 

Meanwhile also yesterday, he made special mention of the local federation, Fitness Express’s CEO, Jamie McDonald, Space Gym, Guyana Shore Base Inc “but most of all, God Almighty for bringing me this far.” 

He concluded by saying, “Guyana here we go, World Classic Championship is it.”
