GFF/GDF investigating alleged theft at Elite League match

The Victoria Kings and Guyana Defence Force [GDF] clash on Friday in the GFF Elite League at the Camp Ayanganna ground was abandoned, after the former’s dressing room was reportedly ransacked and money stolen.

The discovery was made by members of the Victoria Kings’ team, who at the halftime interval, opted against continuing the match.

Large amounts of monies were reportedly stolen from several members of the playing roster and technical staff.

“The incident is now being investigated by the Guyana Football Federation and the Guyana Defence Force and mechanisms will be implemented to avoid a recurrence,” a release from the GFF stated.

Due to the Victoria Kings team stating its  unwillingness to return for the second half, the match was awarded to the army side.

Prior to the incident, GFD led  2-1 with Darrel George and Delroy Fraser scoring in the 16th and 38th minute respectively for the home side.

For the Kings, Azumah Roberts scored in the 43rd minute.

Meanwhile, Western Tigers handed Den Amstel their first loss of the tournament, dismantling the West Demerara side 3-0.

The West Ruimveldt side romped to the win following a double from Andrew Murray Jr., in the 40th and 44th minute, along with  a 62nd minute conversion from Randolph Wagner.

The event will resume today at the Eve Leary ground with a doubleheader. Santos will engage Buxton United at 18:00hrs with the Guyana Police Force taking aim at Milerock from 20:3:00hrs.
