At least one Inter County cricket match will be played this year in Berbice, Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) president Hilbert Foster says.

Foster, speaking at the closing ceremony of the BCB/Perry Gossai 100-ball tournament informed the large gathering of patrons that the match will be played at the Albion Sports Complex ground.

Foster said the decision resulted from a meeting with officials of the Hand-In-Hand Mutual, Fire and Life Insurance Company, the sponsors of the Guyana Cricket Board Under-19 Inter-county tournament.

Foster told this newspaper that he had been calling for the return of Inter-County and senior cricket to Berbice for some time now.

Last year, Territorial Development Officer of the GCB, Collin Stuart, told this newspaper that the reintroduction of Inter-County cricket in Berbice was on the cards but was constrained due to finance.

According to the BCB Public Relations Officer, Simon Naidu, this year’s tournament is expected to begin April 30 with the three-day version that will run until May 10 before switching to the 50-overs format from May 13-19.

Counties have until tomorrow to submit their teams.
