AAG to stage Development Meet tomorrow

The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) will be hosting its second event for the 2020 season and the first ‘Development Meet’ tomorrow at 10:30am at the GDF Ground.

Tomorrow’s meet comes on the heels of the ‘Cross Country’ fixture which was staged last Sunday at the National Park.

While Sunday’s meet catered for long distance runners, tomorrow’s event will see athletes contesting the 60m, the 150m, the 300m, the 600m and the 2000m.

The throws and jumps will also be included. The meet will cater for athletes in the open, U-20, U-17 and U-14 categories.

According to President of the AAG, Aubrey Hutson, he expects to see in excess of 200 athletes competing, many of which will be making their 2020 season debuts.   Hutson noted that the open athletes will kick off their respective campaigns with an eye for qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics while the teens will be looking to get their competitive juices flowing as the CARIFTA trials and the CARIFTA Games are right around the corner.

The U-23 athletes will be looking to get their feet wet also as the South American U-23 Championship is imminent.
