A masterclass bowling performance from skipper Steven Jacobs yesterday propelled the Malteenoes All-Stars to a crushing 82-run win over Tobago Marlins in the opening round of the University of the West Indies International T20 tournament in the Twin Island Republic.

Trevon Griffith

The Guyanese side batted first and racked up a mammoth 209 for nine from their allotted 20 overs. First-class batsman Trevon Griffith led from the front with a 29-ball half-century (53) while Jonathan Foo (41) and the exciting Quintin Sampson (36 from 14 balls) produced cameos to set up the eventual winning total.

Jahron Alfred (3-43), Josh Telemaque (2-37) and Ancil Nedd (2-32) got among the wickets for the Tobago side who in response were routed for 127 in 19.3 overs as Jacobs snared 5-27 from his four overs and bowled his side to victory while also securing the player of the match prize. The Guyanese were locked in battle against Preysal during their second encounter of the day up to press time.
