A 38-year-old man is currently hospitalised in a serious condition after he was chopped about his body by a man who reportedly invaded his Semang Landing, Upper Mazaruni River mining camp.

Kedrick Jones sustained chops to his head, shoulder and fingers during the attack, which took place around 1.15 am on Thursday.

He was taken to the Issano health outpost and later transferred to the Bartica Hospital where he was admitted. His condition is listed as serious.

The suspect, who is known as ‘Dougla,’ has since been arrested and remained in police custody yesterday.

Sunday Stabroek understands that Jones and his wife, Verna Jameson, were asleep in their camp when he was awakened by strange sounds. Upon checking, he noticed the suspect in the camp.

James then enquired from the suspect what he was doing in the camp and a scuffle ensued between the men.

The suspect attempted to escape and Jones chased after him. The suspect then armed himself with a cutlass and inflicted several chopped on Jones.

Jones managed to disarm him and returned to the camp.

He was taken to the hospital by his wife.

The suspect fled the scene but was subsequently apprehended.
