Jacques snares hat trick as DCC thump UG

The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) only needed a few hours on the final morning to bundle out the University of Guyana (UG) for 117 to secure an innings and 90-runs win in the weekend’s lone Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), GISE, Star Party Rental and Trophy Stall first division two-day competition at DCC.

UG resuming on 0-0 and trailing by 207 runs, were gloomy on a sunny morning after being reduced to 38-5. Off-spinner Kevin George got the first breakthrough for the host by removing Keon Roberts (12).

Jacques then came into the fold and snared his second career hat trick by removing Yogendra Singh (3), Beepaul Bandoo (0) and Ershaad Ali (0) to send the students further into trouble. Ironically, the same three men were bagged by Chris Barnwell on Saturday when he claimed his hat trick.

Nonetheless, UG never recovered and slumped to the innings defeat as Jacques ended with 3-4 while George (2-28) and budding leg spinner Orlando Giddings (2-26) completed the victory. Pavendra Persaud (18) and skipper Dwayne Dotson (19) registered starts but failed to kick on.

Scores in the match: UG 94 (Barnwell 6-16, Persaud 39) and 117 (Jacques 3-4, George 2-26, Giddings 2-28) defeated by an innings and 90 runs by DCC 301 (Barnwell 134, Tevin Imlach 73- Persaud 3-11, Damion Vantul 3-74)
