The Inaugural Sterling Products-sponsored Igloo golf classic will tee off today at 12.30 hours at the Lusignan Golf Course.

The tournament was launched yesterday at the company’s Providence location where Chief Executive Officer of the company, Ramsay Ali, expressed his excitement to introduce a premium brand to a premium sport.   “We have just launched a line of premium Ice Cream and hopefully, we will have it up there and we want to associate ourselves with a premium sport and golf is a premium sport in Guyana so that’s the idea behind it,” Ali stated.

Sterling’s head added, “We were bold enough to sponsor a series of tournaments throughout the year and we are looking at a couple more during the year but this is our first and we are very happy to be associated with Lusignan Golf Course.

“We all know what they have been doing, especially as it relates to encouraging everyone to get in the game.”

Ali added that apart from the cash sponsorship, a number of hampers containing products manufactured by the local company will also be given.

“Apart from the cash, we provided some hampers with one worth around $7000-8000 with Sterling products, it is a good thing to exhibit our other products, margarine, soap power, dishwashing liquids, shortening and so,” he said.

Meanwhile, LGC treasurer, Assrodeen Shaw, welcomed the established company on board with the club, noting it is an honor to be associated with them.

“We are excited for Sterling getting on board with us. Apart from our busy schedule we still have slots where we can fit in other sponsors…you want to partner with senior companies like Sterling because Guyana is changing and we have to prepare and part of the change is not the work side but the leisure side and with more and more Ex-pats coming we have to cater for them and this means a lot for us.”

Shaw posited, “we want to partner with companies we believe can push golf and companies who have been around for a long time. I know Sterling is a household name for everyone because I remember growing up I heard about Sterling and it is good to see this and so especially with the new product we will do whatever we can to promote the products.”

The tournament is expected to play across the usual three-flight system with prizes being awarded for the top three golfers in each category.
