Edinburgh youth succumbs to injuries after plunging into trench

An Edinburgh youth on Monday succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital to injuries sustained after plunging into a trench on Sunday afternoon. 

Dead is Jerome Andrews, 22, a salesman, of Lot 163 Edinburgh Scheme, East Bank Berbice.  

Based on information received, Andrews around 3 pm on Sunday was with some friends at the popular `Six bridge’ area on the East Bank of Berbice when he disappeared after plunging into the trench.

Relatives said that after his friends began looking for him he was discovered under the water after which they administered CPR and then rushed him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. He was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Stabroek News was told that the youth suffered injuries to his neck due to him plunging headlong into the trench and also injuries to his brain since he was submerged in the water for some time.

Andrews, who was described to be a jovial young man with a promising future, was a former member of the Edinburgh Warriors Cricket Club and Rose Hall Community Centre Cricket Club.
