The godmother of a homeless man was granted permission to compensate a man who was wounded by her godson.

Joel Stanford who told a court that he is homeless, was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty on Wednesday when his godmother asked the court allow her to compensate the man he wounded.

It is alleged that on November 6th, 2019, at Kitty, Georgetown, with intent to maim, disable, disfigure or to cause grievous bodily harm, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Kareem Lovell.

The homeless man pleaded not guilty to the charge. Immediately after the charge was read, his godmother who was present to the court, stood up and told the Magistrate that if the court would let Stanford compensate for the damage caused by the wounding, she would help him compensate the man for his injuries.

Facts in the matter were not presented to the court.

After asking Lovell whether he would consider compensation, the Magistrate allowed Stanford to compensate him for the offence to the tune of $100,000. She advised his godmother to be present at the court today at 1.30 pm when the matter will be heard again. Stanford was ordered remanded until the compensation is paid.
