‘Passengers’ rob taxi driver of car at Ruby

A taxi driver was on Sunday evening held at gunpoint and robbed of his car at Ruby, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) by three persons, who pretended to be passengers.

Shameer Shafeek, of Zeelugt, EBE yesterday told Stabroek News that he has been desperately trying to find his car; a fielder wagon, bearing registration number HC 7893.

Shafeek, who works as a taxi driver at a taxi service at Tuschen, EBE, was also robbed of jewellery and two cellphones in the attack, which occurred around 9.45pm.

He explained that he was at the base when three persons; two men and a woman, exited a car and requested a taxi to take them to Ruby. Upon arrival, he said he was held at gunpoint and relieved of his valuables. The trio made good their escape in the car.

“…When we reach by Ruby, them seh fah go through some street and stop by a house and when I stop at the house dah is when they pull gun to meh head and one come out, pull me out the car, [and] put meh fah lay down. They tek out meh jewellery them and thing, meh phone them and they just jump in the car and drive away with the car,” he explained.

Following the incident, Shafeek said he ran to a nearby house where he contacted his family and the taxi service and informed them of what transpired.

The matter was reported to the police. Up to yesterday afternoon, there had still been no trace of the car.

Shafeek has been working as a taxi driver for about six years.
