South Ruimveldt shooter released on station bail

As the police await legal advice, the South Ruimveldt businessman who indiscriminately fired gunshots from his home two Sundays ago has been released on station bail, acting Commander of Region 4(A) Phillip Azore said.

Contacted for an update yesterday, Azore told Stabroek News that the case file was sent to the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) chambers for legal advice which will determine the way forward in the matter.

The police in a statement had said that around 7:56 pm on March 15th, the suspect; a 41-year-old auto dealer of Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was firing a gun indiscriminately from his premises.

As a result, members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit responded and the individual promptly surrendered.

His weapon, a .32 pistol with matching live and spent ammunition, was recovered at the scene.

At the time of the shooting, the home was occupied by the shooter’s wife and two children. No injury was reported.
