Emerging youth developmental giant Vurlon Mills Football Academy (VMFA), has inked a partnership with United States of America sports brand Squadra for the latter to serve as their kit supplier.

This was disclosed by Mills during a brief interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday. According to Mills, the creator of the programme, the partnership, which was cemented in February, will aid in the development of the programme by adding a level of professionalism to the sessions. Mills affirmed, “This adds to the professionalism that we intend to achieve and also adds uniformity to the sessions. The kids are excited about the image that is being portrayed by using the kits during the sessions which gives the impression of a professional atmosphere.”

He recalled that the relationship between his academy and Squadra was fostered, following a meeting with Colin Baker, who is a representative of the company and is well known within the local footballing fraternity. Mills added, “Mr. Baker was here to do a presentation prior to the intended start of this season’s GFF Elite League and he subsequently contacted me after viewing the work of the academy. The necessary equipment was showcased and I was very pleased with the quality and the overall prizes. Really and truly, I was not getting any team uniforms with the same quality and price so it was a very good offer and we accepted.”

He added, “After securing the equipment, the company also gave us a signing bonus, which were pairs of training gears for the u16 team. It was a great gesture.”

Mills said the academy has blossomed a great deal

“Creating and managing my own academy was always my passion and it has blossomed since its inception in 2018. The programme caters to players between the ages of 3-16, which basically illustrates that we are a developmental programme in every aspect.”

The VMFA programme has been in existence for two years following its birth in February 2018.
