Friends die after car crashes into median at Bagotstown

Two friends died last night after the motor car they were travelling in crashed into the median along the Bagotstown Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

Dead are Courtney Marcus, 19, of Lot 11 Peter’s Hall, EBD and Ronaldo Simmons, 20, of Lot 15 Azore Street, Peter’s Hall, EBD.

The driver of the motor car, PVV 7570, Steven Roberts, 29, of Lot 387 McDavid Street, Republic Park, EBD was also injured. His condition is listed as stable.

The police today said that the accident occurred around 9.15 pm.

Reports are that the motor car was proceeding south along the eastern lane of Bagotstown Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, when the front of the vehicle collided with the concrete median.

As a result of the impact, Roberts lost control of the vehicle which careened into a concrete fence on the eastern side of the road and came to a halt after slamming into a utility pole.

The trio sustained severe injuries about their bodies.

They were taken out of the vehicle in an unconscious state and rushed to the Diamond Hospital where Marcus and Simmons were pronounced dead on arrival.

Roberts was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
