Security guard dies after colliding with utility pole

A 32-year-old security guard died on Wednesday evening after colliding with a utility pole on the Unity Public Road on the East Coast of Demerara.

Taiknauth Samlall, of Lot 5 Lancaster Unity, Mahaica, was travelling home from work when he lost control of his motorcycle and slammed into a utility pole.

According to a police report, Samlall was proceeding west along the southern carriageway reportedly at a fast rate of speed when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a pole on the southern parapet.

Samlall sustained severe injuries about his body and was rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital in an unconscious state where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Chandra Rajpaul, the cousin of the now dead man, told this newspaper yesterday that the incident occurred just around 8:45pm. 

According to Rajpaul, Samlall was employed by Kalibur Security as a supervisor and was on his way home when he slammed into the pole. Stabroek News also spoke to Kaminee Singh, the wife of Samlall, who disclosed that she spoke with him just minutes before he left work. “He call meh, ask meh if the children alright and he ask wuh meh cook… then he tell me he coming home just now and he never came,” she sobbed.

Stabroek News contacted the Regional Commander, Assisstant Police Commissioner Royson Andries-Junor who confirmed that investigations are still ongoing. Samlall is survived by his wife and 2 children.
