(Trinidad Guardian) The rescue of a 22-year-old Guyanese woman, who was allegedly imprisoned by her possessive husband, may leave a family torn apart.
After freeing the mother and her three children; ages four, two and one from a house in San Fernando, investigators learned that she overstayed her time in T&T.
Police said she faces deportation when the borders reopen.
Last Friday, Insp Charles, Sgt Mohammed, Cpl Ramdass, Cpl Aguilera, and Cpl Julien of the Emergency Response Patrol and Mon Repos police responded to a report of the woman’s unlawful detention.
When the officers called out, the woman responded but could not get out of the house as the lock was on the outside.
The officers eventually contacted the owner of the house who arrived later and opened the door.
While they were at the house, the woman’s 27-year-old husband returned home, and the officers questioned him.
While searching the house, officers found marijuana and a smoking device.
They also found an iguana and two tattoos in a refrigerator which are violations of the Conservation of Wildlife Act.
The Gender-Based Violence Unit and the Child Support Unit are investigating.
The husband faces charges for possession of marijuana and the prohibited carcases this week.
