One week prior to his 80th birthday,  a former Del Casa restaurant and bar manager lost his fight with COVID-19 in a New York Hospital.

Walter Errol Loo, 79, a former resident of Kent Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice, succumbed on April 4.

His daughter, Joanne Jankie Ally, told Stabroek News that her father contracted the virus around March 24  and experienced difficulties breathing, a fever and a cough.

He was admitted two days later to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he later passed.

Ally told the newspaper that Loo was a well-known individual, who held various managerial positions in Guyana before migrating some 18 years ago. While residing in the United States, he worked as a security officer at John F. Kennedy International Airport and at Macy’s Herald Square in New York City.

According to Ally, Loo was known to be “the life of the party “and quite a dancer. He often told stories of girls lining up to dance with him at dances held in Berbice.

His hobbies included singing, playing the guitar and reading mystery novels and he also had a  passion for cooking and entertaining, she said, while noting that he would be remembered for his wit and jovial personality.
