A businessman is now dead following an accident at Loo Creek Public Road, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Michael Sukhu, 58, of Lower Kara Kara, Mackenzie Linden.

Sharon Sukhu, the wife of the deceased, during an interview with Stabroek News stated that Michael left home around 4 am on the fateful day and was on his way home when the accident occurred.

The woman, who was still shaken by the tragic news, explained that she received a call from an unknown person at about 9pm on Tuesday informing her of the accident.

The woman said, according to the information she received, Michael had a blowout, which caused the vehicle he was driving to swerve.

She explained that another driver approaching from the opposite direction observed Michael’s vehicle swerving along the roadway and attempted to pull over but ended up colliding with his vehicle.

As a result of the collision, Michael’s vehicle ended up in the bushes nearby. The man, who suffered injuries to his body, was subsequently taken to a hospital where he died sometime after.

Michael was said to be the sole provider for the home and was described as a simple and helpful individual.

A post-mortem examination that was conducted yesterday found that he died from multiple injuries.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mark Phillips and Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill on Wednesday visited the home of the late businessman and offered their condolences to his deceased family.

Sukhu was a longstanding member of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
