Police probing murder of Kaituma man

The police are investigating the murder of a Port Kaituma resident who was fatally beaten during an argument on Tuesday night.

The dead man has been identified as David James.

The police yesterday confirmed the incident which occurred around 18.30hrs at Aranguy Backdam, Cuyuni River.

James was allegedly beaten about his body including in his face. His lifeless body was discovered by the police in a hammock under a camp.

One of the suspects; a colleague of James has since been arrested while another who goes by the alias “Chris” is being pursued.

Reports are that James was employed by a 51-year-old miner, whose operation is located at Aranguy Backdam.

Investigation revealed that James and a colleague were imbibing alcohol at a camp when an argument ensued.

During the argument, his colleague left and returned shortly after with “Chris”.

“Chris” allegedly dealt James several blows about his face and body causing him to fall to the ground.

The police later arrived and found James’ lifeless body.

An investigation has since been launched.
