Suspect held over fatal beating of Kaituma man

The police have arrested the prime suspect in the murder of Port Kaituma resident David James, who was fatally beaten during an argument on Tuesday night.

A police source informed Stabroek News that the suspect, who is known by the alias ‘Chris,’ of Ogle, East Coast Demerara, was arrested around 5.40 pm on Thursday.

He is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Another suspect, who is a colleague of James, was also arrested in connection with the crime. He too  remains in police custody.

James was allegedly beaten about his body on Tuesday evening at Aranguy Backdam, Cuyuni River.

His lifeless body was discovered by the police in a hammock at a camp.

Police have so far determined that James and a colleague were drinking alcohol at a camp where an argument ensued between them.

As a result of the argument, his colleague left and returned shortly after with ‘Chris,’ who allegedly dealt James several blows about his face and body. The police later arrived and found James’ lifeless body.
