Police in Berbice on Saturday arrested a man, 27, from Adelphi Village, East Canje with 27 grams of suspected cocaine.

The unemployed man was reportedly arrested a short distance away from his house.

The police also said that they went to Vryheid Village, West Canje, Berbice around 3 pm and found about an acre of cannabis with several hundred plants measuring two to five feet in height and more than six thousand five hundred cannabis seedlings.

According to the police, the estimated street value of the prohibited plants discovered is $5,824,000.

A 24-year-old cattle farmer of High Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, was reportedly caught tending to the plants.

Stabroek News was told that the area where the cannabis was being cultivated was once used to grow cane for the Rose Hall Estate.

Both men are expected to be placed before a court in Berbice early this week.
