Labourer on murder charge after joining fight

A labourer is now facing a murder charge after allegedly involving himself in a fight with a co-worker of one of his friends.

Godfrey Christopher Ferreira, of Ogle Old Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on June 10th when he was read the indictable charge. It is alleged that on May 27 in Region Seven, he killed David James. Ferreira was remanded to prison until July 7th.

According to reports, on the day in question at about 6.30 pm, an argument erupted between James and another employee who were drinking at their worksite. As the argument escalated, the man’s colleague left but later returned with Ferreira, who attacked James. This resulted in James falling to the ground. The police were called and upon their arrival, James was found dead in a hammock with injuries to his neck, face, and about his body.

A post-mortem examination was conducted on the body of James and it revealed that he died from a brain haemorrhaging due to blunt trauma to the head.
