Following a request by security agencies, a temporary ban has been placed on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, over Georgetown and a section of the East Bank of Demerara.

The directive was issued on Thursday by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in a notice published via its Facebook page.

The aviation body said the directive, which is intended to enhance national security, applies from June 18, 2020 until 23.59hrs on Monday June 22, 2020. Exceptions are granted for members of the disciplined services acting in an official capacity and assigned to be on duty during the designated period.

When contacted, GCAA Director General Egbert Field said the ban is in place following a request from the national security agencies.
