Some elderly homes are in need of food and cleaning supplies as they continue to cope with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gloria Ramcharan, the matron of the New Nazareth Home of St. Vincent de Paul, told Stabroek News that donations of all sort are welcomed but identified Milex Hi and Low Milk as a needed food commodity.

Ramcharan said, to make the home feel more comfortable she makes floral arrangements to beautify the home.

However, when this newspaper visited the home, another need was apparent: The area identified for hand washing, was in need of a sink as presently there is only a bucket in place.

Ramcharan said the home, which caters for 15 residents, is doing its best to keep all residents safe during this time.

The home can be contacted on telephone number 225-7606.

Kella Ramsaroop, who manages the Dharm Shala Home of Benevolence for All Races, said the home is in need of materials to assist with the maintenance work scheduled to start.

She noted that the home is due to celebrate its 100th anniversary in April of next year, and she is working to keep things in order.

Ramsaroop said a toilet and wash sink need to be replaced while materials for work to be done on the home are also welcomed. These materials include sand and cement. It was also noted that brooms, mops and brushes are also needed as they are frequently damaged.

Ramsaroop also said monetary donations are always welcomed.

The home continues to be guided by the restriction on visitations under the COVID-19 measures and so its 22 residents are using televisions, radios and cellular phones to keep themselves engaged.

The Gentlewoman’s Relief Association is also in need for essential supplies.

President of the home, Annalisa Phang, told Stabroek News that the home is currently housing 15 women and is in need of food supplies and cleaning supplies, sanitizers and toiletries.

She said prior to the pandemic, there were several activities planned but these were cancelled due to the outbreak of the virus.

Monetary donations are also welcomed to assist with utility bills at the facility.

Phang believes that care hampers can be used to brighten the spirits of the residents, especially since they are not allowed to leave the facility.
