With less than eight days remaining in the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Transfer Window, Calvin ‘Fluman’ Allen, coach of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), has confirmed the acquisition of several high profile players from Elite League rival and national champion Fruta Conquerors.

This was disclosed during an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday. According to Allen, the experienced trio of Eon ‘Beckham’ Alleyne, Jahaal ‘Chico’ Greaves and Simeon ‘Shines’ Moore, will don the colours of the lawmen for the impending season following their departure from the two-time defending national champion.

Allen said, “The last transfer period, we brought in a total of 20 players both male and female. This period we have already confirmed four players, with another four pending. The confirmed players are Eon Alleyne, Jahaal Greaves, Simeon Moore and Threvon Pluck.” The duo of Alleyne and Greaves are Golden Jaguar internationals, while emerging midfielder Pluck has been capped at the U20 level.

He further revealed, “We have five transfers pending, we are looking at a young centre back, a young forward and a mature centre back. Right now we are just waiting on the Covid-19 situation to end so we can get back on the field and prepare for the season.”

According to Allen, the decision to target the quartet was based on tactical decisions between the coaching corps and the club’s management team. He further stated that the overall aim is to acquire experienced and talented players to ensure that the lawmen are a formidable sporting project for the foreseeable future at every competitive level.

He declared, “It was a tactical decision between the coaching staff and the administration, we are targeting to bring in youth and experienced players to give us balance to compete not only now but for years to come. What we are looking to do is ensure that the Guyana Police Force is a force to be reckoned with from youth level right up to Elite Football which is inclusive of Women’s. We are building a project that in the next five years, the Police Force will definitely be one of the best programmes in the country. In both male and female, we brought in and targeted young and exciting players, as well as mature and proven individuals. We are doing that which should give us the balance to compete on both fronts in a very structured way.”

However, he disclosed that the club has also suffered the loss of two quality players: Daniel Wilson and William Europe during this period, adding, “We lost Daniel Wilson and William Europe to Western Tigers.”

Allen opined that the acquisition of several quality players in the previous transfer periods, has heaped expectations on the team, noting that the impending pressure of expected results, is a challenge that the team welcomes.

“It’s pressure but I enjoy the pressure and we are up for the pressure. The players, coaching staff and administrators are up for it and we are prepared to deal with the pressure. The target is always to get in the top three but our intention is to win the league at the moment. However we don’t want to fall out of the top four at any time.”

According to the official FIFA Worldwide Registration Periods Calendar, Guyana’s first transfer window will occur from June 1st 2020-July 31st 2020. This applies to all three aspects of the season which are the Men, Women and Amateur sections.

Meanwhile, the second Transfer or Registration Date will ensue from January 1st 2021-January 31st 2021. This also relates to all three segments.
