A small fire at the Guyana Power and Light’s (GPL) headquarters in Duke Street, Kingston, was quickly extinguished last evening following a swift response from employees and the Guyana Fire Service.

At approximately 6.30 pm, Stabroek News was told that the fire alarm in the building went off and Chief Executive Officer Albert Gordon who was in the building alerted other employees and made several checks and found the source of the fire.

It was discovered that the fire started in a computer’s CPU unit, located on the ground floor of the building.

Stabroek News was told that after employees found the source of the fire they kicked open the door and with assistance from the fire service they were able to extinguish the fire.

Only the workstation was damaged as a result of the fire.

Gordon told Stabroek News that they are currently investigating the electrical infrastructure to determine how the computer caught afire.
