Officials from the Ministry of Public Health in collaboration with the police in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) yesterday carried out a face mask sensitisation campaign on the use of face masks at the Leonora and Zeeburg markets.

The West Demerara Police-Region 3 Facebook page said the exercise was conducted between 7.34 am and 9.30 am at the two markets.

During the activity, the police noted that a total of 38 persons, including buyers and sellers, were advised to wear their face masks when venturing out in public spaces. Since July 18th, when the country entered the third phrase of the reopening of the economy, wearing a face mask in public spaces became mandatory under the COVID-19 measures.

Director of Operations of the National COVID-19 Task Force (NCTF) Secretariat Mark Archer had previously told this newspaper that the Guyana Police Force would be responsible for ensuring the citizenry’s adherence to the new COVID-19 measure.

He had noted that the task force would engage in campaigns to spread the message of the importance of wearing a face mask once in public.
