The Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Nigel Dharamlall and Minister within the Ministry Anand Persaud yesterday met with Mayor Ubraj Narine during a courtesy visit to City Hall.

Mayor Narine subsequently disclosed to a statutory city council meeting that numerous matters were addressed with the ministers, including the municipality’s subvention, the construction of an administration building, the need for assistance to renovate City Hall, the collection of outstanding rates and taxes, and policies and bylaws.

Narine explained that the bylaws and policies currently in the works are not intended to pressure the citizens of Georgetown but to put systems in place for their betterment.

Meanwhile, he also disclosed that in July, a request was made to the Audit Office to conduct a financial audit of the municipality’s accounts for the year 2019.

However, he noted that while the letter was sent out on July 24th, to date Auditor General Deodat Sharma is still to respond.

Narine said he was asking that the Auditor General come in and commence the financial audit for the year 2019.
