NIS restarts amnesty on interest for owed contributions due to COVID-19

The National Insurance Scheme (NIS) has announced the reintroduction of an amnesty on interest for the payment of contributions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a public notice issued yesterday, the NIS explained that the amnesty would cover contributions owed from January 15, 2020, to August 15, 2020. It added that the extended deadline for payment of the contribution without interest is September 30th, 2020.

Employees, and self-employed, persons who have existing agreements with the National Insurance Scheme’s Debt Recovery Unit are not entitled to the waiver of interest, it, however, noted.

Anyone seeking further information on the amnesty is advised to call telephone numbers 226-8376/227-3461.
