Deputy Commissioner of Police, Paul Williams has proceeded on more than six months annualised vacation leave effective from yesterday.

In a brief statement yesterday, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Guyana Police Force, Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor made the announcement.

He said Williams will be proceeding on a total of 192 days of annualised vacation leave.

“The Guyana Police Force wishes to announce that with effect from today 2020-08-17, Deputy Commissioner of Police Paul Williams will be proceeding on one hundred and ninety two days annualised vacation leave,” the statement said.   Williams has over 30 years of service under his belt. Among the portfolios he held were Crime Chief and Acting Commissioner of Police.

In 2018, he was promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police by former President David Granger. Williams was also among the nominees who were interviewed by Granger for the post of Commissioner of Police. However, he was not selected.

Since the swearing in of President Irfaan Ali, there have been changes in the hierarchy of the force.

Top Cop Leslie James and Deputy Commissioner Maxine Graham have since proceeded on pre-retirement leave and Deputy Commissioner Nigel Hoppie is now performing duties as the Police Commissioner.
