Gov’t probing emails that suggest illicit oil deals at Guyoil

The PPP/C government has begun a probe of email correspondence purportedly between a senior former APNU+AFC official and an executive of the Guyana Oil Company (Guyoil) which suggested there were illicit oil deals with a well-known local company.

“There is going to be an investigation. We started doing some preliminary work and it is a serious matter,” Minister of Public Infrastructure Juan Edghill told Stabroek News yesterday.

Over the past week, allegations that Guyoil had been giving fuel to the company under invoices for the Guyana Defence Force began circulating, after the leak of a purported email between the former government official and the Guyoil executive. Neither of the two officials in the purported correspondence have said anything about it.
