GDF medic helps deliver Venezuelan national’s baby at Kaikan

A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) medic on Wednesday assisted a Venezuelan national with the delivery of a baby at Kaikan, in the Cuyuni Mazaruni region.

According to a press statement released by the GDF yesterday, Thirston Tappin, a Lance Corporal attached to the GDF, was helping other residents in the area when the Venezuelan, Nairobi Marquez, 34, went into labour at her Kaikan home.

The release added that Marquez resides with a Guyanese relative and has extended sincere appreciation to Tappin and the GDF.

The release stated that Tappin, who is based at Kaikan, was asked to assist Marquez and he did so after seeking permission from his superior, Lieutenant Quason McAndrew, he rendered the assistance needed. After the safe delivery, Marquez and her newborn were transported to the Kaikan Health Centre for further care and treatment.
