Six homeless after fire guts Amelia’s Ward home

Six persons are now homeless after a fire of unknown origin completely gutted their wooden one-story Central Amelia’s Ward home yesterday afternoon. No one was at home at the time of the incident.

Forty-four-year-old Melissa McKinnon and five of her seven children resided at Lot 1651 Central Amelia’s Ward  Linden.

McKinnon, a security guard attached to Kalibur Security Service, is currently posted at the Amelia’s Ward Nursery School. McKinnon left for work at 7am yesterday leaving a teenage son and daughter at home.

Sometime around 10 o’clock,  the woman’s son left the home to visit a friend, then at about 2 o’clock, McKinnon’s daughter who had remained at home, left for her mother’s workplace after securing the house. The fire was said to have occurred between 2pm and 3:30pm yesterday. McKinnon later received a call informing her that her house was completely engulfed.

The fire was put out by firefighters from the Linden Fire Service.
