Teen remanded to Juvenile Holding Centre over Bat Creek killings

A juvenile who was involved in an incident that left a man and young child dead, was on Monday remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre.

The teen was arraigned via Skype before Magistrate Annette Singh at the Charity Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.

He was not allowed to plead to the indictable charge and was further remanded until September 25, when he will make his next appearance.

Stabroek News had reported that a man and a young child were killed, while four others, including two other children were injured, after a teenager attacked them on August 13, at Bat Creek, Upper Pomeroon River.

The dead were identified as Ramdat Singh, 35, called ‘Shami’, and Kissoon Williams, age 3, both of Bat Creek, Upper Pomeroon River.

Those previously hospitalised have been identified as Adona Williams, 23 and Jonie Williams, 22, as well as two children, aged six years, and one year.

According to Police Commander of Region Two Crystal Robinson, the four injured victims were released from the hospital and are currently recuperating at home.

The attack on the family occurred around 3 pm.

The police in a press release, had stated that information revealed that Singh was attacked and stabbed after which he fell to the ground. The suspect then allegedly turned his attention to the Williams sisters and the three children, leaving them all wounded.

The victims were all placed in a boat and taken to the Charity Hospital, where Singh was pronounced dead. The others were subsequently transferred to the Suddie Hospital, where Kissoon Williams later succumbed while in intensive care.

Immediately following the juvenile suspect’s arrest, it was observed that he had wounds which he admitted were self-inflicted. He was taken to the Charity Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and discharged.
