Guyana records two more COVID-19 deaths

Two more persons have died as a result of COVID-19 in Guyana while 48 new positive cases have been recorded.

This was disclosed by the Ministry of Health in a press release where it was announced that the 81st and 82nd COVID-19 fatalities in the country were recorded on Wednesday. The two persons were identified as a 61-year-old woman from Region Four who died while receiving care at a medical facility while the other was identified as a 60-year-old man from Region Three. It was not stated whether he too died while at a facility.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard showed that 48 new cases were recorded following the last round of testing for the virus. The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 2,894.

Approximately 94 more persons were tested during the last round of testing bringing the total number of persons tested so far in the country to 14,082.  There are currently 1,123 active cases of which 938 are in approved home isolation while the other 185 are in institutional isolation facilities. The number of persons at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit decreased to 11 and 52 persons are in institutional quarantine.

A breakdown of the new cases by region shows that 17 of the new cases were recorded in Region One, three in Region Two and one in Region Three. Region Four recorded the most new cases yesterday, with 24 new cases being recorded while one new case each was recorded in regions Five, Seven, and Eight.
