A man died  on Sunday after he lost control of his motorcycle and fell onto the road in the vicinity of Demerara Distillers Limited at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

Marlon Fiedtkou, 40 of 14 Delph Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

A police statement said the accident occurred at about 5.45 pm while Fiedtkou was riding a motorcycle, bearing registration number CG 3100, along the western carriageway of Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara. He lost control and fell onto the road surface, suffering injuries about his body as a result.

He was subsequently picked up by police ranks and escorted to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty. However, he was later transferred to the GPH, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and admitted as a patient in the Accident and Emergency Unit’s Critical Bay suffering from a punctured lung and lacerations about his body.

Roderick Dyer, President of Sonic Hunters Motorcycle Club, of which Fiedtkou was a member, told Stabroek News that the now dead man was taken to St. Mercy Hospital, where he spent hours in the emergency room.

Dyer, who said members of the club were in an inconsolable state, explained that they were told that the victim was stable but needed surgery for a pelvic fracture and was referred to the GPH.

He remembered Fiedtkou, who was a member for six years, as a jovial, easy-going, hardworking and kind person.

He noted that to honour of Fiedtkou’s memory, the team will plan a bikers’ funeral procession after confirmation of the funeral arrangements.

Dyer also said, “He will live on in our heart and will be memorialised as someone who had great compassion for his family, friends and the sport.”
