CAL to operate six flights per week between Guyana and NY

With the reopening of Guyana’s international airports, Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL)  yesterday announced that it will be conducting three weekly flights from Guyana to New York and three on the return leg.

The new schedule also offers flights out of Trinidad to Guyana.

CAL in a statement said that flight BW 536 is scheduled for departure from Trinidad to Guyana on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, at 7.20 am while flight BW 461 is scheduled on the same route for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with a departure time of 10.30 am.

Additionally, CAL said flight BW526 from Guyana to New York is scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and will be departing at 10.00 am and arriving at 4.00 pm in New York. This flight will cater for those coming to Guyana from Trinidad.

The Trinidadian-based airline also announced that it is operating scheduled flights from New York to Guyana on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with departure at 7 am. This flight will arrive here at 12.40 pm.

CAL announced that Caribbean Miles members who book and travel between Guyana and New York from now until November 30 will receive double miles points.

Ogle to Barbados

Meanwhile, CAL is still to announce a startup date for flights on the Guyana to Barbados route to the Ogle airport.

Following the announcement of Guyana reopening its airports, the airline informed the management of the Eugene F Correia International Airport (EFCIA) that it would  commence operations on October 19. This plan did not materialise.

Spokesman of the EFCIA, Kit Nascimento, told Stabroek News that they are currently in discussions with CAL and are awaiting confirmation of their official flight schedule.

Director General of the GCAA Lt. Col. Egbert Field (Ret’d) told Stabroek News that CAL is currently fine- tuning its operating plan and is carrying out some necessary checks at the Ogle airport. He projected that the airline can begin operating on the route by the end of this month.

The airline resumed operations between Guyana and New York, USA, on Monday October 19, from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).

CAL on Monday night announced another scheduled flight from Guyana to New York today as it begins to roll out its schedule following the reopening of the international airports here.

On October 23, the airline is scheduled to fly from New York to Guyana. This flight will depart at 7am from JFK and arrive at CJIA at 12.40 pm.

The airline informed that passengers travelling from Trinidad to New York on this flight will transit via Guyana and must adhere to the necessary protocols for entry into this country.

On CAL’s social media page, many Cuban nationals have been expressing interest and making enquiries as to when the airline will resume operations between Guyana and Cuba. The airline in response to enquiries said no decision has yet been made on a resumption date.
