A 21-year-old man has been charged with larceny committed on a Canefield couple last Wednesday evening.

David Karran of Canefield Settlement, East Canje, Berbice, appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Renita Singh where he was charged with larceny in a dwelling house committed  on Rudolph Kentolall. He is accused of  stealing cash, jewellery and gadgets to a total value of $207,000.

Karran, who resides next door to the victims, was not required to enter a plea.  He was placed on $50,000 bail.

He will return to court on November 6.

Rudolph Kentolall, 45, and his wife, Bibi Kentolall, of Lot 964 Canefield Settlement, East Canje Berbice were at a neighbour’s house assisting with a situation and had left the door to the lower flat of their house opened just around 6 pm when the bandits launched their attack.

Stabroek News was told that  minutes after the couple left home they heard sounds from their house and upon looking over they noticed two bandits entering their kitchen located on the lower flat.

The owner hurried over armed with a piece of wood and  confronted the two bandits who were outside of the kitchen. He reportedly dealt them several lashes causing them to flee through the backyard, leaving the other bandits in the kitchen.

The two other bandits, one armed with a handgun and the other a pitch fork, who were inside of the kitchen heard the commotion and came outside where they met Kentolall still armed with the piece of wood.

During the scuffle outside of the kitchen, the bandit who was armed with the pitchfork lost his cloth mask which revealed his identity to the resident.

It was reported that that bandit then ordered his accomplice with the gun to shoot Kentolall which resulted in a round being discharged.

Kentolall dodged the bullet after which the other two bandits fled through the backyard onto the dam which is located behind the man’s house.
