Narine spurs Majestic CC to final

A match-winning all-round performance by Guyanese all-rounder, Derick Narine, spurred Majestic CC past Brown Munde, which helped his side to land a place in next weekend’s final of the New York T20 league.

Majestic CC won the contest by five wickets.

The day’s proceedings saw Munde winning the toss at Cunningham Park 73rd Avenue and electing to take first strike.

They were bundled out for 120 in 16.4 overs following impressive spells from Guyanese trio, Narine (4-13), Wasim Haslim (3-23) and Terrence Madramootoo (2-22). Robin Singh (26) and Sonu Singh (23 not out) provided lower order resistance but the total was easily knocked off by Majestic CC who reached their target – 121 for five in the 17th over. Narine returned with the bat to carve out a 32- ball 57, which included six fours and three sixes to lead his side’s successful run chase.

Meanwhile, another Guyanese, Dino Cheeweenam, who formally represented the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), slammed an even century for Phoenix XI, which came against New York Zalmi in the second semi-final, which was abandoned. Nevertheless, the little play that unfolded at Baisley Pond, saw Phoenix XI piling it on, posting 165-7 from their allotted 20 overs. Cheeweenam was the cornerstone of the innings with his 59-ball 100, which was decorated with 10 sixes and four fours. Hamad Hussain (2-40) was the most successful bowler for Zalmi, who were reeling on 17-3 when the match had to be called off.
