A new road will soon be built to benefit over 100 residents in Line (Rustom) Dam, Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara, a release from the Ministry of Public Works said yesterday.

Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar on Tuesday visited the community where he met with residents.

Accompanying Indar on his visit were Regional Chairman, Sheik Ayube, Regional Vice Chairman,  Omesh Satyanand and Parliamentary Secretary within the Ministry of Agriculture, Vikash Ramkissoon.

Indar, according to the release,  said that 550 rods of the road will be rehabilitated to asphaltic concrete and street lights will also be installed in other locations to benefit residents.

The release said that while most people in the community were appreciative of the road, others highlighted the need for a road to be built on the Conservancy Dam. Indar  however explained that the land for the road was in dispute and will be developed after the required procedures are completed.

Residents also requested that a recreational field be built for youths  and the Minister said he will make representation to the Minister responsible for Sports, Charles Ramson Jnr.

Over at Belle West, another location in Canal Number Two,  Indar said that a new bridge will be built to reduce the traffic congestion at the main intersection.
