Serious inroads must be made into the level of crime

Dear Editor,

Several months ago a relation of my wife, who lives in Cumberland, was robbed in broad daylight by a knife wielding thug. As far as I am aware, no arrest has  been made.  I now hear that his partner has been kidnapped and robbed although released uninjured. Quite frankly, the police are extremely inefficient and it is disturbing to read of the number of cases implicating members of the Guyana Police Force. Oil or no oil,  if Guyana is to make any progress at all much less attract foreign investment and perhaps just to live in Guyana, serious inroads must be made into the level of  crime taking place and indeed ought to be priority number one for the new president.

Yours faithfully,

Peter Hays
