Following a meeting with vendors at the Corriverton Market on Friday, Region Six Police Commander Jairam Ramlakhan has agreed to assign ranks to conduct daily patrols there.

Ramlakhan yesterday told this newspaper that during his visit to the market, vendors stressed the lack of security at the location. As a result, he has since assigned three ranks to patrol the market so as to offer on the spot security to vendors.

Additionally, the commander related that he also met with the Corriverton Town Clerk, who he had a “frank discussion” with about improving the Constabulary Department by employing more persons.

Meanwhile, on Friday Ramlakhan also visited Orealla and Siparuta, where residents mostly spoke of the need of a policing group. Concerns were also raised about drug use in the area and bottom house rum shops.

During his three-hour-long interaction with the residents, Ramlakhan asked them to form a policing group. He also urged them to form a station management committee to look at improving the police station as soon as possible in light of the current condition of the facility.

Since his appointment to head the division, Ramlakhan has visited a number of villages and areas in the region in an effort to listen to residents and better improve policing.
