The Home Affairs Ministry has donated a patrol boat to the Region Three Community Policing Division, which is expected to support crime fighting in Wakenaam and Leguan.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the 16ftx5ftx2ft aluminum boat with a 40 horse power engine was handed over yesterday morning to the Chairman of the Community Policing Division, Mustapha Zaman, by of Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn, who noted that community policing groups should be the link between communities and the Guyana Police Force.

“Other than gunmen going around, some of the incidents appear to be people getting emotional and mud balling…We have  to have empathy and understanding so we don’t get things degenerated any further,” he was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the ministry.

Benn was accompanied by Ministerial Advisor on Security, Harry Gill; Administrator of the National Community Policing, Reshi Das; National Chairman of Community Policing, Kishore Gobin; Division Three Secretary, Chandra Sahadeo; Division Three Liaison Officer, Dhansham Ramnarine; and a Chief Inspector.

In accepting the donation, Zaman, the statement said, expressed gratitude for the donation since the absence of a boat had hindered the division’s crime fighting efforts for years.

The patrol boat is among several items recently donated to the Division by the Ministry. “A motorcycle, grass cutter, printer, laminating machine, life jackets, and other items were given as support to the Division,” Das added.
