Body of teen pulled from Linden ‘blue lake’

The body of a 15-year-old male, who drowned in the Linden `blue lake’ on Saturday afternoon, was found yesterday about 15 feet from where he went under water.

The teen was a student of Wisburg Secondary School and a resident of Prosville, Wismar, Linden.

According to a police statement, which did not name the victim, the incident occurred at the `blue lake’ in Linden at about 5.30 pm. It was disclosed that around 4.30 pm on Saturday the teen, his sister and other relatives left their home and went to swim at the `blue lake’. While in the lake, the teen encountered difficulties and went under.

A relative who saw what had happened made attempts to rescue the teen but was unsuccessful. The search went on for the teen’s body overnight.  There have been a number of drownings over the years in this lake.

When contacted yesterday afternoon, Regional Commander Henry Winter told Stabroek News that the body of the teen was found around 11 am yesterday.

The body is currently at the Linden Hospital Complex mortuary awaiting a post mortem.
