Goed Intent man charged with murdering mother during robbery

Devon Anderson, the man who police say stabbed his mother to death at her Goed Intent home last week, was yesterday charged with murder.

Anderson, 32, of Lot 21 Murray Street, Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara, was charged with murdering Jennifer Anderson in the course or furtherance of a robbery.

He appeared via Skype in the Vreed-en-Hoop courtroom of Princi-pal Magistrate Faith McGusty. He was not required to plead to the charge, which states that he committed the offence between November 25th and November 26th, and he was remanded to prison until January 14th.

According to the police, the 62-year-old woman’s body was found in a room on the upper flat of the two-storey house where she and her granddaughter lived. The accused was implicated in the attack on them and he was later apprehended.

The weapon used in the murder is assumed to be a screwdriver, which relatives found. This newspaper was told that woman was stabbed 72 times and she was wrapped in cloth when her body was discovered. It was also reported that the mother and son had quarrels and recently there was some misunderstanding concerning the man’s rent. He rents one of the houses in their yard.
