Allam, 26, of Turn Basin, Port Kaituma, North West District, was murdered on Friday in an attack that occurred around 5.30 pm when he tried to intervene after the men harassed his wife.

The Guyana Police Force said Allam’s common-law wife was at their shop when the suspects approached her and held by her hair.

As a result, he went to her assistance and two of the suspects pounced on him and dealt him several blows about his body with a piece of wood until he became motionless.

He was then reportedly dragged a short distance away and one of the suspects took out a knife and slit his throat, whilst another held him down.

The police said the suspects then proceeded into the shop and removed some raw gold but did not harm the man’s wife after she pleaded for her life.

Allam was subsequently picked up by the police and escorted to the Port Kaituma Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
