Accused in murder of teen discharged from hospital

Yogeshwar Kumar, the man accused of murdering a 16-year-old teen of Rich-mond Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, was yesterday discharged from the hospital after having attempted to take his own life.

Police Commander of Region Two, Superintendent Crystal Robinson told Stabroek News that Kumar is now in the custody of the police as they await further legal advice.

Kumar, 34, a self-employed male of Bounty Hall, Essequibo Coast, was hospitalised for three weeks after he ingested a poisonous substance after committing the crime on the teen.

The man is accused of murdering Sanesha Lall, with whom he previously shared a relationship, on November 11, at her Richmond Housing Scheme home.

The Guyana Police Force had said at about 9:30 am, the man entered the home of Lall who was at the time in her bedroom, whipped out a knife, and dealt her several stabs about her body before escaping in a blue minibus that was parked outside.

Lall was later taken to the Suddie Hospital and was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.

At about 12.20 pm, acting on information received, the man was arrested at Better Hope Backdam, Essequibo Coast, where he told ranks that he had consumed a poisonous substance. He was admitted under guard to the Suddie Hospital.

A search of his vehicle was done in the backdam and revealed an Indezone bottle on the left passenger seat and a black ‘Rambo’ knife under the left passenger seat.

A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of the deceased revealed the cause of her death as multiple stab wounds.
