Teen’s murder leaves Richmond family in mourning for Christmas

While the Christmas season is a time of celebration for many families, it won’t be for Annasha Lall and her family.

Annasha Lall is the older sister of Sanesha Lall, the 16-year-old Richmond Housing Scheme girl who was fatally stabbed last month by a man she rejected, and she said she has no plans to celebrate Christmas this year after all that her family has been made to endure.

Annasha said even though losing both parents was a painful and heartbreaking experience for her and her siblings, having each other was a source of comfort for them. However, with Sanesha now gone, she said “it feel like a part of our family has gone with her.”

She added, “I just wish that my sister was here. She use to talk about things that we will do for this Christmas, and now she is not here.”

She recalled Sanesha indicating to her that she was not interested in receiving presents this Christmas but instead wanted to have all her siblings together in one place.

The now dead teen had spent Christmas with another relative last year and her heart’s desire was to have her immediate family close this Christmas day.

The young woman also mentioned that Sanesha had spoken of the many things she planned to do for the holiday period and noted that she had a passion for cake making and particularly applying the finishing touches with icing.

The young woman said while they had no set tradition, she and her siblings would spend time while cooking, which was something they all looked forward to.

Annasha, who is still saddened by the tragic loss of her sister, revealed that her death has taken a toll on the entire family. Her youngest – and now only – sister continues to cry every night and constantly speaks of the deceased. Her brother, she added, has become withdrawn and hardly speaks at all.

As the older sibling, Annasha, said, “it does hurt me a lot to watch them be like this.”

She revealed that with time everything will heal but she added that she does not believe that anything can change what they saw and felt as they witnessed their helpless sister being killed and taken away from their family.

Annasha further revealed that she now finds herself being increasingly protective of her two remaining siblings, whom she said she never lets out of her sight. “They are all I have left,” she said, before adding that seeing them happy makes her happy.

The Guyana Police Force has arranged for the siblings to get counselling.
